The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has downplayed the significance of the emerging “Rainbow Coalition”, insisting that the party has established structures and grassroots networks to campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Bayelsa APC Chairman, Warman Weri Ogoriba, made the position known in a statement issued on Friday, maintaining that the party remains organised and firmly established across the state’s eight local government areas and political wards.
Ogoriba’s comments came amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections and followed statements by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, regarding the Rainbow Coalition and its support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Wike has described the Rainbow Coalition as a multi-party platform focused on mobilising support for Tinubu rather than serving as an APC structure.
Bayelsa APC: We Have Our Own Structures
According to Ogoriba, the Bayelsa APC would remain focused on strengthening its existing organisation rather than being distracted by political arrangements outside the party.
He said the APC’s priority was to consolidate its membership, deepen grassroots mobilisation and maintain internal unity as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
“The task before the party is to remain organised, disciplined and committed to the collective objective of advancing the APC and supporting its candidates at all levels.”
The chairman also expressed confidence in the party’s existing members, stakeholders and grassroots networks, describing them as the foundation of its planned electoral campaign.
“We are confident that the combination of the party’s existing structures, committed members, stakeholders and grassroots networks would provide the foundation for a strong electoral campaign in 2027.”
Ogoriba Urges APC Members to Remain United
The Bayelsa APC chairman called on party members and supporters across the state to remain focused and united as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
He said the state leadership would continue consultations with stakeholders while expanding mobilisation efforts across communities.
Ogoriba further reaffirmed the commitment of the Bayelsa APC leadership to strengthening the party’s organisational structures and working collectively towards the success of Tinubu and other officially nominated APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The development comes as political parties and alliances continue to position themselves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with the role and influence of emerging cross-party arrangements likely to remain a subject of political debate.
