BREAKING: Federal Government Unveils Plan for Foreign Training of Doctors

According to a report from PUNCH, the Federal Government has announced plans to send select medical personnel abroad for specialized training.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, aims to equip healthcare professionals with advanced skills and expertise in specific medical specialties.

Speaking at the investiture ceremony of Dr. Peter Ebeigbe as the 23rd President of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Ijanikin, Lagos State, Minister Alausa emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing research and reducing reliance on foreign healthcare services.

Collaborating closely with the National Postgraduate Medical College, the Ministry of Health is set to embark on a comprehensive training program targeting various sub-specialties critical to addressing the healthcare needs of Nigerians.

The newly developed curricula will encompass a wide range of disciplines, including interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, interventional radiology, pain medicine, critical care medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and robotic surgery.

To facilitate the training abroad, the Federal Ministry of Health is instituting mechanisms to fund selected candidates, who will be bonded upon completion of their studies.
