BREAKING: Ghana is the highest exporter of yam to the United States of America but they don’t produce it

On 4th March 2024 the former member of the House of Representatives representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency from Niger State and also the current Governor of Niger State, Honorable Umar Mohammed Bago during an interview with Newsmen revealed that Ghana was the highest exporter of yam to the United States of America, but they did not produce the yam instead, they take their yam and sell it to the Americans.

According to report, the Governor of Niger State, Honorable Umar Mohammed Bago said “You can see that they’ve dollarised our garri and yam. The yam that is being shipped to the UK and USA comes through the Benin Republic to Ghana.

Ghana is the highest exporter of yam to the United States of America but they don’t produce it. They take our yam, and these are kinds of exploitation that have been going on for years. But again, our people who have warehouses are trying to sabotage government efforts.

We will go into production and produce more; we will defeat them because the food will be too much. It is a simple economics. Once you have excess supply, demand will drop.”

Honorable Umar Mohammed Bago disclosed that the recent ban on the exportation of food items to neighboring countries had helped cut down food prices in the country. He also added that the Niger State Government did not stop the movement of food items from Niger State to other parts of the country.

If you could recall, some weeks ago the Governor of Niger State, Honorable Umar Mohammed Bago cried out that some people were sabotaging the effort of the Government by shipping food items to the neighboring countries.
