BREAKING: I’m not a senator of the North nor am I a senator of the South, I’m a Nigerian Senator

In reaction to Senator Abdul Ningi’s claim that the 2024 budget was inflated, the former governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has declared that he is a Nigerian senator and rejected regional ties, making it clear that he is neither a senator of the North nor the South. He claimed that his name and reputation, which he wouldn’t want to tarnish, were the foundation of his campaign for a House seat.

He emphasized the consensus achieved during the 10th Senate’s initial sessions to function impartially towards individuals based on their ethnicity or religion. In closing, he urged his colleagues to acknowledge that protecting each member’s integrity and maintaining the highest standards inside the legislature are mutually responsible.

He said in a press release by TVC, ”The only thing that I used to campaign to get to the House is my name, my pedigree, and my integrity. Some may have gotten here because they had resources. But I got here because I had made a name. I came here to build on that name not to diminish it, not to distort it and not to do anything that will be unexpected of somebody of my background.

I’m not a senator of the North nor am I a senator of the South, I’m a Nigerian Senator. We agreed on these rules in our first, two, or three sittings that we will operate irrespective of race or religion. I want to plead that we must recognise that we have a duty to uphold the finest standard of the legislature and defend the integrity of each and every one of us.”
