BREAKING: Onanuga Responds After Obi Said N3trn Allegedly Added To Budget Represents Over 10% Of National Budget

The Special Advisor on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, responded to remarks made by former Anambra state governor Peter Obi, who claimed that the N3 trillion that was purportedly added to the budget accounted for more than 10% of the overall budget.

Abdul Ningi asserted that the National Assembly’s approved budget and the one in use are not the same. Peter Obi responded by making the assertion.

In a post that Peter Obi made on his official X handle, he said it is shameful to read the alleged N3 trillion discrepancy between the budget approved and the one being implemented. Peter Obi proceeded to state that the report is disturbing because the amount that was added represents 10% of the National budget.

Peter Obi wrote on his page;

“I find it deeply disconcerting and a matter of grave concern and even shameful to read about the alleged N3 trillion discrepancy between the budget approved by the Nigerian Senate and the one being implemented by the presidency. One Senator claims there is a separate budget, allegedly containing the N3 trillion, that differs from what was passed by the National Assembly. This alleged discrepancy is especially worrying because it represents over 10% of our national budget (estimated at N29 trillion)”.

However, Bayo Onanuga has now reacted to the statement that was made by the former governor of Anambra state. In a post that he shared on his official X handle, he said there was no padding in the budget. Onanuga advised Peter Obi to always confirm reports before jumping into conclusion.

Onanuga said that;

“There was no padding. My advice: don’t always jump into a matter in public space without first of all confirming its authenticity”.
