BREAKING: Stop Using my Name to Extort Nigerians –IGP

Kayode Egbetokun, the Nigria Inspector-General of Police, has cautioned officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) against exploiting his name for extortion and other corrupt acts. Egbetokun urged Nigerians to promptly report any instances of police extortion to the appropriate authorities.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the force, conveyed the IGP’s warning that any officer caught leveraging his name would face severe sanctions.

“IGP Kayode Egbetokun implored the public to exercise caution and report any attempts to exploit his name for fraudulent activities or extortion, particularly in the investigation of cases,” the statement read.

Highlighting the essential role citizens play in collaboration with the police force to uphold high standards of conduct and eradicate corruption, Egbetokun reassured the public of the force’s dedication under his leadership to eradicate misconduct and ensure accountability.

He urged Nigerians to immediately report any incidents of extortion or fraudulent activity, providing detailed information to facilitate thorough investigations that would result in severe penalties for offending officers.
