With Senator Ningi’s remark, former Edo State governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole figuratively said that the Senate has already been painted in a negative light in the public eye and that it is pointless to try to hide it. He called attention to a particular query concerning the amount—25 trillion naira—in the approved appropriations bill.
Any assertion putting up a figure of 25 trillion was met with disbelief on his part. Nonetheless, it seemed to the senators that Senator Ningi, who has previously made significant contributions on the Senate floor, should receive a minimal punishment.
He said in a press report by TVC, ”After listening to everything. We have already been stripped naked in the market, we cannot wrap it as if it has not been seen. The minimum requirement for my brother who I respect very much on account of being vocal, I like vocal people. He has energy, I don’t have enough energy. But I have seen him made very valuable contributions in the past on the floor of the Senate.
And I think he can still remedy that having agreed that something went wrong. Because the question you have put out Mr. President is, what was the figure in the appropriation bill that was approved? And somebody answered 28 trillion naira. Therefore any suggestion that it was 25 is simply a lie. The problem of trying to defend more lie is that you have to speak to more lies in order to defend more lies.”
