According to Darlington Nwauju, the APC’s publicity secretary in Rivers State, former governor Nyesom Wike was previously heard on camera expressing his preference for Peter Obi to be president.
In response to assertions that, absent Wike’s backing, Bola Tinubu would not have received the majority of votes cast in Rivers State on February 25th for the presidency, Nwauju made this declaration in an interview with Channels TV. Additionally, he made the implication that there is no proof of Wike publicly endorsing Tinubu’s victory in the election.
In Nwauju’s words: “Please show us evidence of where he openly campaigned for the president. If you provide us with such evidence you would have succeeded in silencing us. I am aware that at some point the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike was caught on camera saying he would have preferred a Peter Obi presidency. So there is no need to prevaricate about these issues. These are things that are in the public domain”.
