defeating Hamas will take ‘more than several months, Israel’s defence minister warns

According to Sky News, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued a warning, saying that Hamas’s defeat in Gaza is not likely to happen anytime soon. It was highlighted by Gallant in a meeting with White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who is now touring the Middle East, that Hamas has been deliberately constructing its infrastructure above and below ground.

Gallant asserted that eradicating Hamas would be a prolonged endeavor, extending beyond several months. Despite the challenging timeline, he expressed confidence in Israel’s ultimate success, stating, “We will win, and we will destroy them.”

The discussion between Gallant and Sullivan also touched upon the imperative for Israelis to return to their homes near the Lebanon border. Thousands had been displaced due to cross-border clashes involving Hamas ally Hezbollah. The exchange between the two officials was captured in a video shared by the Times of Israel’s military correspondent, Emanuel Fabian.

This insight into the prolonged nature of the conflict underscores the complexity of the situation in Gaza and the challenges Israel faces in addressing the entrenched infrastructure of militant organizations.
