According to information provided by a friend of the late Major Salisu Danjuma Shaffa, he is survived by two children and a wife who is soon to give birth.
Shaffa and sixteen other soldiers were killed in the Okuama hamlet in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, and the country has been incensed over their senseless deaths ever since.
According to the report by Vanguard, the friend, Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa, said that the “late Shaffa, before paying the ultimate sacrifice, penultimate Thursday, had two children while the wife is pregnant and is expecting delivery soon.”
It was gathered that Shaffa’s father, Danjuma Shaffa, was also a military officer, and died some years ago in Borno State after retirement from service.
Alhaji Durkwa who is a former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 election in Borno State said that thorough investigation should be conducted into the killing of the soldiers, and that anyone found wanting should be made to face the law.
According to the report, Shaffa had only spent three weeks in his new posting before he met his untimely death.
Friends and family members of the late Shaffa have also taken to social media to mourn him and pray for his soul to rest in peace.
Meanwhile, the military has been intensifying the search for the culprits that killed the soldiers in Okuama, and have been spreading their dragnet to neighbouring communities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had promised that the 17 slain soldiers will be given a befitting burial and also be given national honours.
