Godknows Soriel, Vice Chairman of the Community Development Committee in the Igbomotoru Community, has discussed the situation in their community after the military operation in Igbomotoru. He described how the proclamation made by a soldier repeated limitations on necessary activities such as going to markets, fishing, farming, and going to school.
He bemoaned the lack of food because it was so difficult to enter and exit the area. He made a request for help from the governor of the state of Bayelsa, asking for food to get them through this difficult time.
He said in an interview with Arise Tv, ”We are in short of food, we have been besieged. No going out and no coming in. A Soldier was shouting no market, no fishing, no farming, and no school from a distance. So we want the governor to come to our aid and rescue us. They should send food so that at least it can sustain us. Let the investigation go on but let our liberty be given to us.”
The Nigerian Army has launched a military operation in Delta State and Bayelsa state after the killing of 17 soldiers in the Okuama community in Delta state. The Igbomotoru community is being placed under siege after the Nigerian Army claimed that the suspect involved in the killings had moved to Igbomotoru.
The suspect, Endurance Amagbein was said to have been involved in the peace resolution meeting in Okuama before the soldiers were killed. Meanwhile, the President of the Ijaw Nation Congress, Professor Benjamin Okaba has pleaded that the Military should go after the perpetrators and allow innocent locals to go on with their businesses.
