OAU’s Team Acme Emerges Winners of 2023 CIMA Business Leadership Challenge with 88.3% Among Top Nigerian Universities

Yesterday in Lagos, Team Acme from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, secured a remarkable victory in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) 2023 CGMA Business Leadership Challenge. Competing against other top Nigerian universities, the team impressed CIMA assessors and esteemed business leaders, earning them the first-place position.

The competition, sponsored by Stanbic IBTC, was a regional event designed for business and accounting students. It was organized by AICPA and CIMA, collectively known as the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.

Claiming the second and third places were Team KFK from Nile University and the University of Lagos, achieving scores of 75.4% and 87% respectively. As a reward, they received monetary prizes of N400,000 and N600,000 respectively.

Out of the 30 teams that submitted entries for the contest, CIMA assessors carefully shortlisted the finalists from seven universities. The ACME team, comprised of Omodara Faith, Ajongolo Oluwafemi, and Oluwasanmu Giwa Michael, stood out with their outstanding presentation skills. As a result, each member of the team was awarded a one-year subscription to the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme along with a cash prize of N1 million.

Ijeoma Anadozie, the Country Director of CIMA Nigeria, commended all the participants and emphasized the significance of performance and value creation in today’s business world. She expressed her commitment to equipping students with the necessary skills and competencies to excel in an ever-changing disruptive world, ultimately driving prosperity and opportunities.

During the event, Biodun Olorunishola, the representative from Stanbic IBTC, emphasized the importance of sustainability as an essential journey.

Furthermore, Baze, Covenant, and Top Faith universities received consolation prizes as a token of recognition for their participation in the competition.
