President Tinubu presides over Federal Executive Council meeting

Today, in the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu is presiding over the Federal Executive Council, or FEC, meeting of his government.

Mr. Tinubu will appoint the eight recently chosen permanent secretaries who have been given approval to work in the Federal Civil Service during the cabinet meeting.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and several ministers attend the meeting; they were not present in the previous FEC meeting, which took place on October 23, 2023, because they were abroad in the US.

The Monday cabinet meeting began by 12 p.m and is attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan; the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and other members of the cabinet.

A draft policy encompassing the operations, rules, regulatory framework, and sourcing dynamics of the Nigerian solid mineral sector was approved by the Federal Executive Council during the most recent meeting of the Council, which was presided over by President Tinubu.

The signing of an MOU with German Mining Technology Company GEO SCAN to explore Nigeria’s potential subterranean mineral deposits, believed to be worth $700 billion, was also approved by the Council.

As the President’s principal advisory body in Nigeria, the FEC is tasked with developing policies, offering guidance on questions of governance, and supervising the execution of government programs.
