Why I’m not worried about Tinubu’s swearing-in on May 29 – Atiku

ABUJA–A former Vice President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, said he was not worried that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, would be sworn in on May 29, before the conclusion of petitions seeking to nullify his election victory.

Atiku, who is currently challenging the declaration of Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as winner of the presidential election that held on February 25, said he was hopeful that he would reclaim his mandate in court.

Speaking through his lead counsel, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, shortly after the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, consolidated his petition with the ones that were filed by candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Atiku, maintained that the court, has the powers to sack Tinubu from office, even after the swearing in ceremony.

Noting that full blown hearing on the three merged petitions would commence on May 30, a day after Tinubu’s swearing in as President, the PDP candidate, through his team of f lawyers, said: “I have been asked about May 29, I want to assure people that swearing in is only a ceremony that does not in any way tie the hands of the court.

Obi is to present petitions against Tinubu in three weeks

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has ordered Peter Obi and the Labour Party to present their joint petition against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory at the 2023 election within three weeks.

The Tribunal also ordered the President-elect, Tinubu, to defend his victory along with the Independent National Electoral Commission within five days. The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, issued the order on Tuesday while presenting the pre-hearing session report of the Tribunal.

Among others, Justice Tsammani ordered that Obi open his petition for hearing on May 30 and end same on June 23. Recall that Obi, through his counsel, Professor Awa Kalu, SAN, had requested seven weeks to establish their allegations against Tinubu’s victory.

Court Adjourns Seun Kuti’s Trial

Justice Adeola Olatubosun of the Chief Magistrates Court in Yaba, Lagos State, has reportedly adjourned the trial of Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, to Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

The trial, which was slated for today, May 23, 2023, was said to have been adjourned as a result of the judge’s absence from the court, a source who pleaded anonymity told PUNCH.

$21bn revenue, 100,000 jobs coming from our refinery — Aliko Dangote

Amid encomiums from eminent personalities, including President Muhammadu Buhari and presidents of five other African countries, founder and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, yesterday expressed optimism that the newly commissioned 650,000pbd refinery would employ over 100,000 Nigerian youths and generate over $21 billion in revenue.

According to him, this will save the country huge forex that would have been spent on fuel importation.

He also disclosed that the first products from the refinery would hit the market towards the end of July this year, adding that the refinery currently has over 33,000 employees.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Refinery by President Buhari at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Dangote said its products “will be in the market before the end of July.’’
