Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is scheduled to address a World Press Conference at his residence in Abuja today.
The former Vice President has not disclosed the specific issues he plans to address at the press conference as of the time of filing this report.
Atiku is also yet to announce his campaign council for the 2027 presidential election.
The planned media engagement comes two days after Atiku hosted former First Lady Aisha Buhari at his Abuja residence.
Atiku disclosed the meeting in a post on his X account, describing his interaction with Aisha as “warm and deeply appreciated.”
“Today, I was delighted to receive former First Lady, H.E. Aisha Buhari,” Atiku wrote.
He did not reveal the purpose of Aisha’s visit or whether their discussions focused on political matters.
However, Atiku used the occasion to highlight the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of basic necessities.
He said families across the country are facing increasing expenses on food, transportation, education and healthcare, while stressing the need for leaders to prioritise the welfare of citizens.
According to Atiku, anyone seeking to lead Nigeria must place the interests and future of Nigerians at the centre of their actions.
“That is the Nigeria we must build together, a country that works for its people again,” he said.
“We must ease the burden, restore hope and Make Nigeria Affordable Again.”
The meeting with Aisha came amid increased consultations among opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku emerged as the ADC presidential candidate after joining the opposition platform as part of efforts to build a broader political coalition ahead of the election.
The ADC had previously explained Atiku’s absence from an opposition summit in Abuja, stating that the meeting was primarily focused on discussions involving political parties rather than individual presidential candidates.
Atiku’s latest meeting with Aisha is also part of a series of interactions between them in recent months.
In February 2026, Atiku hosted Aisha, her daughter Hanan and other members of the Buhari family in Saudi Arabia during their Umrah trip.
Aisha has continued to participate publicly in activities connected to the legacy of her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on July 13, 2025.
In July, she described education and human capital development as among Buhari’s major legacies while attending the groundbreaking ceremony for a Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
The project is being funded with proceeds from the book From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, which chronicles the life and public service of the former president.
Aisha said the initiative was intended to preserve Buhari’s legacy through investment in education, knowledge and innovation rather than physical monuments.
The political relevance of the Buhari family has also continued to attract attention in Katsina following the emergence of Yusuf Buhari as the APC candidate for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat.
Yusuf Buhari secured 6,386 votes in the APC primary, defeating Auwal Daura, who polled 322 votes.
