Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the government is working to address Nigeria’s challenges and that the situation may not be as bad as some Nigerians claim.
Kosoko made the remarks during an appearance on the Talk To B podcast, hosted by actress Biola Adebayo, where he urged Nigerians to consider the state of the country before Tinubu assumed office.
According to the actor, some people criticising the administration should reflect on their living conditions before the President came to power.
“Things are not as bad as some people have claimed and they need to understand. Go and check the majority of those people. Before Tinubu came, what were they eating?” Kosoko said.
Jide Kosoko Explains Why He Supports Tinubu’s Administration
During the interview, the actor maintained that Tinubu was working to address problems inherited by his administration.
However, when asked what tangible evidence ordinary Nigerians could point to in support of the claim that the President was fixing the country, Kosoko highlighted government initiatives, including the student loan scheme.
He urged beneficiaries of the programme to share their experiences and explain how the initiative had helped them pursue their education.
Kosoko also stated that the government had promised to support graduates who were unable to secure employment immediately after completing their studies.
He argued that such initiatives deserved greater public attention and should form part of discussions about the administration’s performance.
Actor Blames Political Ambition for Criticism of Tinubu
Kosoko, who said he had been involved in politics since 1978, further suggested that political interests sometimes prevented people from acknowledging what they considered progress under the current administration.
According to him, some opposition figures were aware of the government’s efforts but allowed their political ambitions to influence their views.
“Those in the opposition know the truth. They know that the man is on the right track, but ambition is affecting their thinking,” the actor said.
His comments come amid continuing public debate over the Tinubu administration’s policies, economic reforms and efforts to address the country’s challenges.
While Kosoko believes the government is making efforts to tackle inherited problems, Nigerians continue to assess its performance based on their experiences with the cost of living, employment opportunities, education and other essential needs.
The actor’s remarks have added to the ongoing conversation about the administration’s record and the extent to which its policies are improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
