A harrowing incident unfolded along the Idofe-Oru axis of the Ijebu Ode-Ibadan highway, led to the loss of two lives and one individual sustaining injuries, as a Toyota car, affectionately known as Muscle, careened off the road into the bushes on Monday.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the ill-fated vehicle, bearing registration number SMK 532HY, was journeying outward Idofe around 6 am when tragedy struck.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the accident was triggered by excessive speed on the part of the driver. Despite noticing the impending collision with the roadside foliage, the driver’s attempts to correct course were futile, culminating in the vehicle hurtling off the road.
The driver, who tragically lost their life in the crash, battled in vain to regain control of the vehicle as it careened towards a tree, ultimately colliding with devastating consequences for the occupants.
Akinbiyi disclosed that the deceased has been transported to Ijebu Igbo, while the injured party is currently undergoing treatment at the General Hospital within the same locality.
