Assembly seeks adequate security around Oyo public schools

The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the state government’s executives to promptly address the security issues in public schools.

They highlighted on Tuesday the need for immediate action to enhance security in public primary and secondary schools, urging proactive steps from the government and education stakeholders in light of recent reports of attacks and insecurity nationwide.

“Public schools in the state have for many years operated without adequate security, leading to reports of kidnapping, rape, vandalism, and theft of government property,” Dawood Olalere (PDP/Ibadan North West) noted during plenary while deliberating on a motion he brought before the House.

He said, “Such measures will guarantee safety and secure access to education and further build the confidence of parents and guardians to send their children and wards to public schools. The House takes cognizance of the importance of protecting public schools from insurgent attacks in the form of kidnapping, rape, vandalism and theft.

“To this end, we urge the executive arm of the government to put measures in place to beef up security in public schools to promote safe and secure access to education in the state.”
