BREAKING: Husband allegedly strangles wife in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has disclosed a man named Michael Chidozie has been taken into custody for allegedly beating and strangling his spouse at their home in Mile 4, which is close to Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The victim and mother of three, Mrs. Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie, of Delta State, allegedly died after suffering injuries after being assaulted in the early hours of Tuesday, March 5, 2024, though it was unclear how the incident occurred.

The couple’s children, who are all boys, are 10, 7, and 5 years old, respectively.

According to a local source who asked to remain anonymous, the late husband called his late wife’s brother to let him know there was an emergency at home.

“When the late woman’s brother arrived, the house was open and quiet. He then went in only to find the lifeless body of his sister. He shouted and called out the name of the woman’s husband.

“But he was nowhere to be found and there was no trace of him. Since then they have been looking for him and even reported the matter to the police,” the source explained.

He further revealed that before now the couple had been having issues, adding that the man had been complaining to some of his close friends.

However, it was learned that the Agip Police Division, Mile 4, Port Harcourt, had taken the suspect into custody on Wednesday morning.

Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect was being held while an investigation was being conducted.

Superintendent of Police Iringe-Koko revealed that the suspect was taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for a covert investigation after his apprehension.

She said, “The suspect has been arrested. He has been transferred to the SCIID for discreet and proper investigation.”

Since the family and the police had decided that the woman’s body should be examined as part of the investigation before being buried, the body had been placed in the mortuary.
