BREAKING: Keyamo restates commitment to maintain aviation safety standards

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, reiterated his dedication to maintaining safety standards within the aviation industry during the ongoing Air Traffic Controller-Pilot Forum (ATC-Pilot Forum) in Lagos on Wednesday.

Highlighting safety as a priority among his five-point agenda for the aviation sector, Mr Keyamo commended the organizers of the seminar for their initiative.

This forum, titled “Building Safety Capabilities for the Future,” marks the third in its series and is the first to be held after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Keyamo noted the importance of harnessing technological advancements to enhance aviation safety capabilities for the future.

“Invest in training and education and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the aviation community.

“Together, we can create a safer and more resilient aviation industry that inspires confidence and trust among passengers and stakeholders.

“The theme of this seminar, underscores the paramount importance of safety in our aviation industry.

“As we gather here today, we recognise the dynamic nature of aviation and its capabilities, and with the ever-evolving challenges that are accompanied.

“It is imperative that we remain steadfast in our commitment to enhancing safety standards and capabilities to ensure the well-being of all passengers and personnel involved in air travel,” he said.

Ahmad Abba, the chairman of the ATC-Pilot Forum Steering Committee, disclosed the significance of the forum as a platform for frontline aviation professionals to exchange ideas and address shared operational challenges.

During his welcome speech, Mr Abba lauded that the forum offers an opportunity to put forward recommendations aimed at improving the safety of flight operations.

He mentioned that previous forums in 2019 and 2020 raised concerns regarding Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) operational requirements, ongoing issues with air-ground and ground-ground communications, among others.
