Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed his displeasure with the administration of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a video that Channels Television uploaded to their official YouTube account, Wike adamantly refutes claims that he was involved in a plot to have Fubara removed from office at the Supreme Court, stating that he has supported the governor without hesitation since the election for governor.
Wike stated that his faction is undeterred by the executive power wielded by Fubara’s government, adamantly refusing to relinquish control over his political structure in the state.
He accuses Fubara and his team of resorting to frequent attendance at church Thanksgiving ceremonies, viewing such actions with disdain, and suggesting that Fubara is fortunate not to have displayed this behaviour earlier.
In a bold declaration, Wike challenges anyone to confront him and his supporters in Rivers State, offering to either guarantee peace if the current administration desires it or ensure chaos if peace is not favored.
Although President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to broker peace have led to the withdrawal of an impeachment notice against Governor Fubara by the State House of Assembly, tensions persist.
Fubara, in a move to consolidate his position, has reinstated several resigned commissioners, further exacerbating the divide between the rival factions.
The standoff between Wike and Fubara reflects a broader power struggle within the PDP in Rivers State, with each side vying for control and influence.
Wike said, “If they like, let them do as they are doing. They should go to any court they have in the state and let them continue. We will never be intimidated by that. Every day they go for Thanksgiving, but they are lucky that they didn’t show this attitude early.
“After we won at the Tribunal, they said we wanted to remove them from the Supreme Court. Can you imagine that kind of thinking? And that was how they extorted money from them.
“I dare anybody to pursue us in this state. If you want peace, we will give you peace. If you say you don’t like peace, we will make sure there is no peace.”
