Imo Govt Bans Hotels, Eateries, Bars From Discharging Liquid Waste Into Public Gutters

The government of Imo state has directed the ministry of Environment to immediately stop the direct discharge of liquid waste into gutters by hotels, eateries, bars and other companion operating in Imo state.

This directive was sequel to a motion moved by Innocent Ikpamezie of Mbaitoli state constituency in Imo House of Assembly during plenary on Friday.

Presenting the motion, the lawmaker noted that most of the gutters within the locations of hotels, eateries and others were often blocked or poorly drained.

He said, “the stench and odor which these gutters emit are inimical to human life. The resultant pollution witnessed in and around such areas of business and the health challenges it poses to the people residing within the vicinity, are the main essence of this motion.”

The Assembly urged Governor Hope Uzodinma to direct all those involved in the environmental pollution to make provisions for a soak-away where all their liquid waste will be channelled to avoid osmic pollution.
