Famous Nollywood actor Pete Edochie offered his thoughts on the latest events, pointing out the hiring of a Yoruba person to manage operations at a broadcasting station in Enugu and the appointment of a Yoruba person to serve as a permanent secretary in Anambra State. According to Edochie, these events represent the idea of a “handshake across the Niger,” which is an overcoming of cultural and geographic barriers in order to work together toward progress and unification.
During an interview with Obiora Ilo on Signature TV, Edochie emphasized that such actions are essential for the advancement of a nation. He suggested that these gestures should be further encouraged and expanded upon to establish them as standard practices, thereby fostering unity and progress across diverse cultural and regional landscapes.
His words: “We are talking about handshake across the Niger. The Governor of Enugu State employed I think a Yoruba man to be in charge of the broadcasting house. A few days ago, a Yoruba man in Anambra was promoted to permanent secretary. That is exactly what handshake across the Niger means. People keep shouting about restructuring, nobody ever sits down to tell you what restructuring is all about. It’s always in their heads. They just say it because others are saying it. Somebody who is born in the North should be able to contest any office in the North in spite of his religion. That is how a country progresses. Tinubu must know that a Yoruba man has been appointed permanent secretary in Anambra State.
