Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has praised his players for their bravery and composure following their 2-1 victory over Barcelona in Sunday’s El Clasico encounter.
Kylian Mbappe scored twice, with Raphinha finding the net for Barcelona, as Madrid secured a crucial victory to reduce the gap to the LaLiga champions to three points.
Mourinho Praises Real Madrid’s Composure
Speaking after the match, Mourinho commended his players for their ability to cope with Barcelona’s intense pressing and maintain their composure throughout the contest.
The Portuguese manager was particularly impressed with how Madrid played out from the back against a Barcelona side known for pressing high up the pitch.
“My boys were amazing tonight. They were very brave, especially in build-up, against a team that presses very strongly and very high,” Mourinho said.
He also praised his players for their response after Barcelona equalised, highlighting their ability to remain focused rather than allow the setback to affect their performance.
“And even when they equalized, we did not panic or lose focus,” he added.
Mourinho Admits Real Madrid Took a Risk
Despite celebrating the victory, Mourinho acknowledged that Real Madrid took a significant risk by failing to score a second goal that would have given them a two-goal advantage.
The manager’s comments highlighted the fine margins involved in a high-pressure encounter against Barcelona, particularly when facing a team capable of creating dangerous attacking opportunities.
Nevertheless, Madrid held on to secure all three points and strengthen their position in the LaLiga title race.
Real Madrid Look Ahead to Racing Santander and AEK Athens
Real Madrid will now turn their attention to their next LaLiga fixture, an away trip to Racing Santander, as they look to maintain their momentum and continue putting pressure on Barcelona at the top of the table.
Mourinho’s side will subsequently travel to Greece to face AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League.
With important domestic and European fixtures approaching, Madrid will hope to build on their El Clasico triumph and maintain the confidence gained from their victory over their biggest rivals.
